Koda Kumi Becomes First Female Soloist In 47 Years To Hold #1 & #2 Spot On Oricon Album Chart

Koda Kumi’s double album “W FACE ~outside~” and “W FACE ~inside~” have taken the number 1 and 2 spot respectively on Oricon’s weekly album sales chart.

In its first week of sales, “W FACE ~outside~” sold 20,762 copies, while “W FACE ~inside~” sold 20,689.

This is the first time in 47 years that a female soloist has held the #1 and #2 spot on Oricon’s weekly album chart with an original album. The last one to do so was Keiko Fuji in 1970 with her albums “Shinjuku no Onna / “Enka no Hoshi” Fuji Keiko no Subete” and “Onna no Blues”.

Only 5 female soloist have ever taken the #1 and #2 spot on Oricon’s weekly chart. In addition to Kumi and Fuji, Ayumi Hamasaki (“A BEST 2” in 2007), JUJU (“BEST STORY” in 2012) and Kana Nishino (“Love Collection” in 2013) have achieved this feat.
